Interactive Sovereign and Industry dashboards for a US-bases sell-side firm focused on high yield and distressed debt.

About Client:

A mid-sized US-based sell-side firm having high yield and distressed debt as a strategy with offices across the US, London, and Hong Kong. The client is already serviced by ValueAdd with on-going credit research support.

Business Problem:

ValueAdd used to delivered the dashboard of key metrices across select sovereigns and sectors on a monthly basis. However, client was looking at something interactive and more analytical. Girish came up with ideas of analysis within the sovereigns and sectors and then across the peers. Thus, this requirement needed a use of an advanced visualization tool.

ValueAdd Solution:

ValueAdd’s credit analyst teamed up with the AI developer specialized in Tableau. The team studied the requirements of each dashboard, its inputs, calculations (YoY or MoM or QoQ analysis), business rules, analysis of each metric, and its implications.

Development of sovereign dashboards:

  • The dashboards had metrices including leading and lagging indicators like GDP growth, inflation, interest rates, FX, trades (exports/imports), etc.
  • As the metrics across the sovereigns were more or less same, the code for other sovereigns was reused.
  • Each dashboard had analysis and insights based on the numbers reflected in the dashboard.

Development of sector dashboards:

  • The dashboards had key operating metrices or KPIs for each sector, including shipping, oil and gas, retail, telecom, technology, etc.
  • The KPIs were unique for each sector and was developed individually. For instance the KPIs included dry bulk index or volumes for shipping sector, # of subscribers for telecom sector, and same-store-sales for retail.
  • Each dashboard had analysis and insights based on the numbers reflected in the dashboard.

Actual testing of the application:

  • The testing was split across stress testing, business rules testing, data testing, checking validations, and graphical user interfaces.
  • The list of bugs was supported by screenshots of the errors.

Benefits Delivered:

  • The dashboard application was hosted on client’s server and was accessed through the website, with login credentials.
  • The dashboards links are shared with client’s end customers and the interactive features are a big hit!
  • Client is able to track the activity on these dashboards and this analytics helps navigate its sales outreach too.
  • The dashboard offer more analytics in terms of investment analysis for sovereigns and sectors.
